America: The Story of Us is a sweeping 12 hour History Channel event spanning 6 nights covering events in American history from the first harvests by entrepreneur John Rolf in America’s first boomtown that fueled the nations economy to our technological leaps and bounds from their birth till now. History Channel takes you on a journey through time recreating the most important moments in history, reintroducing us to the men and women whose decisions ultimately shaped our lives, and offering a narrative guide that connects it all.

QUALITY:
First off you have to understand that America: The Story of us is a patchwork of filming styles that includes older stock footage and CGI segments. Live action segments that were filmed for the documentary are divided into two styles. On one hand the picture is crystal clear really creating a fantastically vivid colorful picture where definition brings out every detail you could imagine. Then there are live action segments that attempt to draw you into the then and there creating the façade of an older looking film quality for the purpose of making you feel as if your in the moment. The picture is given a flawed appearance which translates well enough artistically but all together seems unnecessary and until you catch on that its done on purpose your going to wonder if maybe the quality of the BD set was not well transferred. CGI is decent, nothing really all that spectacular, but its never really used to create anything monumentally aesthetic. Interviews are decent but not completely up to par. Finally the stock footage is as you would expect. The older the source the less quality you find the picture. Still the majority of the quality here is phenomenal and well worth the price of ownership. Audio comes in two options; DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. The 2.0 Master Audio is a bit loud but manages a good surround sound capability. Narration seems to do battle with everything else on this track. The 5.1 Master Audio is obviously the better of the two choices. Narration meshes well with ambient sound but is a little bass heavy musically.

BONUS FEATURES:
Disc 1: Additional Scenes on American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, George Washington.
Disc 2: Additional Scenes on Civil War, Transcontinental Railroad, The Statue Of Liberty, Henry Ford and the Model T.
