Twilight sequel NEW MOON gets release date, no director yet...

Fledgling studio Summit Entertainment has announced November 20, 2009 for NEW MOON, the sequel to the box office phenom TWILIGHT, based on the book of the same name.  With pre-productio set to begin in Vancouver as early as THIS coming Monday, December 15, Summit's next announcement better be the hiring of a new director.  Earlier this week, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke announced that she would NOT be returning, citing the elusive "scheduling conflict" (aka: money).

Rumors are afloat that Hardwicke's pre-resignation stemmed from not being able to take any time off between the hoopla of Twilight and the beginning of New Moon, while other sources cite that Summit actually didn't ask her to come back because of difficulties she caused on the set of the franchise starter.

Director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass, American Pie) has been offered the helming position for NEW MOON but, as of this filing, no decision has been made.
