2016 Georgia Film Critics Association Awards Names 'Moonlight' Best Picture

The winners of the 2016 Georgia Film Critics Association Awards have been announced with Moonlight taking home the top honor of winning Best Picture. In total, Moonlight racked up six awards including Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali and Best Adapted Screenplay for Barry Jenkins. La La Land followed up close behind with five awards itself including Best Director for Damien Chazelle and Best Original Score for Justin Hurwitz.


Other winners include Casey Affleck for Best Actor in Manchester by the Sea and Natalie Portman for Best Actress in Jackie. On the supporting side, Mahershala Ali and Viola Davis took home the Best Supporting Role for their performances in Moonlight and Fences, respectively. The Oglethorpe Award for Excellence in Georgia Cinema award highlights the best film that was shot and/or produced in Georgia. This year's award goes to The Nice Guys, which was filmed in downtown Atlanta and Decatur.
