Neill Blomkamp Launches New Film Project with Short Film 'Rakka' starring Sigourney Weaver

Oats Studios is the newest film project from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp, whose goal is to make "experimental short films – a testing ground for ideas and creativity" with the hope of popular shorts leading to the development of full scale feature films.

Rakka is the first short film released by Oats Studios, and it stars Sigourney Weaver in a sci-fi post apocalyptic world that has been invaded by aliens. Directed and co-written by Blomkamp, she leads a group of resistance fighters against the reptilian-esque aliens who use superior technology to enslave and terminate the entire human race. The entire 21-minute short is available for viewing for free on YouTube, and you can also download it on Oats Studios' Steam page.

On Steam, you can also sign up to be a member of the creative community where you can purchase the Volume 1 assets to Rakka for $4.99. Included in Volume 1 are a downloadable video file of Rakka including a 5.1 surround sound mix, Rakka Concept Art , Rakka Scripts, and Rakka 3D Models. Other volumes planned for Rakka will include Dailies, Visual Effects, Behind the Scenes, Sound Track, and Sound Stems. Oats Studios aims to crowdfund directly from the community so by purchasing what the studio is calling 'DLCs' you'll help support future film projects. Utlimately, their goals is to inspire young filmmakers by giving them direct access to their resources.
