Transformers Spin-Off 'Bumblebee' Set for Release in December 2018

The upcoming Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee, has begun principle photography and been set for release on December 21, 2018, Paramount Pictures has announced.

Bumblebee is being directed by Travis Knight with a screenplay written by Christina Hodson and stars Hailee Steinfeld, Pamela Adlon, John Cena, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, and Grace Dzienny. It is being shot entirely in California.

The official synopsis is as follows:

"On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug."

The film is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, alongside executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Mark Vahradian, and Chris Brigham.
