Jon Favreau to Executive Produce and Write a New Live-Action 'Star Wars' Series

Jon Favreau has been hired by Lucasfilm to executive produce and write a new live-action Star Wars series for Disney's upcoming standalone streaming service, the studio announced. Known for directing The Jungle Book and the first two Iron Man films, Favreau also voiced Pre Vizsla in six episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and will play an alien in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Favreau is the latest person to be announced as developing more content for set to expand the Star Wars universe. Previously it has been announced that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are developing a new trilogy of films. That's in addition to the other new trilogy of films that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is developing as well.

No information regarding what the new series is about or when it will debut has been announced.
