Well, the Golden Globes certainly was a more entertaining affair than last year's "press conference" due to the writer's strike, but it wasn't the "exciting, never before seen" creation that was promised. All in all, it was a typical awards show with slightly atypical results. Indie Slumdog Millionaire beat out heavy hitters like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Frost/Nixon to win the big award of the night, Best Drama. Woody Allen took home an award for the Best Comedy or Musical with Vicky Cristina Barcelona, beating out the Coen Brothers' Burn After Reading (Obviously, not the greatest night for Brad Pitt movies). The late Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor for the Dark Night, no big surprise but it does just about seal up his chances for at least an Oscar nomination, if not the win. Kate Winslet had a big night winning both Best Actress (Revolutionary Road) and Best Supporting Actress (The Reader). Winslet has 5 Oscar nominations and no wins. Other than Slumdog Millionaire cleaning up with 3 awards (including Best Screenplay by A.E. Rahman and Best Director, Danny Boyle, the night was a bit predictable on the movie and TV side (NBC's 30 Rock took home best comedy and AMC's Mad Men, Best Drama).
