Emily Blunt has had quite the whirlwind with the comic-movie genre as of late. She was originally set to play the Black Widow (good casting, if I say so myself) in Iron Man 2. However, an issue arose when 20th Century decided to take a hold of an option from her Devil Wears Prada days resulting in her appearing in Gulliver's Travels with Jack Black and Jason Segel. That meant no run-ins with Shellhead and Scarlett Johansson netted the role instead. Then her name was brought up for Peggy Carter, the female lead in Captain America and an offer was reportedly put on her table. She ultimately said, "Thanks, but no thanks" according to Los Angeles Times. No reason was given as to the decision, but one assumes the meager paycheck combined with the potential iron-clad participation for Captain America sequels or other Marvel productions might have played a factor. Or was there another reason, perhaps? Batman-On-Film has received a tip suggesting Blunt's nixing Captain America may have had to do with the World's Greatest Detective. As per the tipster, the actress may have her sights set on playing Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) in Batman 3. That is assuming director Christopher Nolan, screenwriters David Goyer and Jonah Nolan & Co. intend to use the character. Blunt was reportedly a candidate to replace Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight after Warner Brothers shit-canned her. It's not out of the realm of possibility that she caught Nolan's eye and he took a mental note to use her later down the line. Not against casting Blunt in any way, shape or form (I think she’d be fine), but…really another exploit with Catwoman? I kinda figured Nolan would create his own villain for the third installment. That said I've always been one to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt. I did when Sam Raimi took on Spider-Man, Bryan Singer on both the X-Men and Superman franchises and Nolan on Batman. It's safe to say Nolan has earned that benefit of the doubt after two fantastic Batman films. I'm game for whatever he has in mind.
