“Tristana” was first in theaters in 1970, but it has been digitally remastered and re-released in Blu-ray formats. The movie was nominated for an Oscar and has won various awards. “Tristana” is the story of a young lady named Tristana (Catherine Deneuve), whose mother has just recently passed away. Respecting her mother’s wishes, she is now being cared for and under the supervision of the much older Don Lope (Fernando Rey). One thing leads to another and he seduces her, but Tristana grows weary of Don Lope and has her eyes set on another man. What happens next in this love triangle? You are going to have to watch the movie to find out.

There several aspects of the movie that I was very unhappy about. “Tristana” was very long and slow paced to the point I almost feel asleep on several occasions. There were numerous unnecessary scenes that did not add any value or insight to the main plot and could have been left out. In addition, the fact that there was little music in the whole movie added to the sluggish pacing to the movie’s conclusion. The main plot was pointless and confusing at times. I also did not like the negative portrayals of the hearing impaired characters being “idiots” or “perverts.” This movie felt outdated, but in more ways than one.

I know the movie was digitally remastered, but the picture quality still looked very old fashioned and fuzzy. However, they did include a 20-page collectible booklet and some never-before seen bonus features to please any fans of the movie. For, me, it was still not enough to save this movie. I do not recommend watching this movie unless you were a fan of “Tristana” in the first place. For those reasons, I am giving this movie an “F.”
