Just in time for that special Valentines Day event for you and the one you love, Leeds born singer/songwriter Corrine Bailey Rae releases her Love E.P. featuring five covers of love songs. Songs on the album include Is This Love by Bob Marley, I Wanna Be Your Lover by Prince, Low Red Moon by Belly, My Love by Paul McCartney & Wings, and finally a live cover of Que Sera, Sera by Doris Day.

Wow. Corrine Bailey Rae has a beautiful, sexy voice that manages to make each and every cover here her own and with her backing band its simply the complete package. I’ll give it you that her cover of Prince’s I’ll Be Your Lover may take a couple of listens to get used to, I chalk that up to the songs devotion to the original Prince versions sound. Still, what an amazing cover. While this five track E.P. really doesn’t allow for you to select just one song as a favorite mine would have to be the cover of Bob Marley’s Is This Love which comes at you with a very old school R&B feel that really offers up a less crowded sound as far as instruments go to give you a clear sense of Corrine Bailey Rae’s vocal sense. Its hard to describe, like its stripped, yet so powerfully present. The final track Que Sera, Sera runs a whopping 13:27 at the back end of the E.P.  and is a powerful duet with a staple blues sound. In short though I can listen to this E.P. an unlimited number of times without getting tired of it (and I say this as I listen to it in the background for the eighth or ninth time). To call this collection of songs anything less then perfect would be crazy, but don’t take my word for it, head over to her myspace page and listen to the stream of her Is This Love Cover. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy.
