Neal Brennan is a comedian that is best known for being co-creator of the popular show “Chappelle Show.” However, he will be returning to Comedy Central for his first stand up special “Neal Brennan: Women and Black Dudes,” which will air on January 18 at midnight. He covers a wide variety of topics from women to race to sex. Along with his comedy central special, he is also releasing a digital stand-up album with the same name, which Shake fire had the chance to review.
Neal is a hilarious guy and his jokes are unique, but there were a couple of issues I found with “Neal Brennan: Women and Black Dudes.” I loved most of the topics he covered, but some were a lot funnier than others. My favorites were about technology and everything he discussed about women. The major issues I found were the transitions and the visuals. His transitions from one subject to another were either redundant [“I have some (insert ethnicity here) friends, so I know….”] or not smooth at all. This is one part of his act that he needs to work on. Also, there were some jokes that required you to see something, which was difficult on a digital stand-up album that was all audio and made things a bit difficult to comprehend.
Neal’s jokes ranged from obvious to over the edge, but comical nonetheless. He made some really good jokes and made me laugh, but they were definetly not safe for work and filled with vulgarity. I am trying not to compare him to Dave Chappelle, but he really needs to work on his transitions and delivery to even in the same league. Regardless, I still had some good laughs and am giving this album a B-.
