NGHBRS is a band from Long Island, New York that have been together since 2010. They released their first EP, called “Hellomind,” around the same time and it received lots of praise from the critics. Fast forwards to 2013 and NGHBRS is ready to release their first full-length album entitled, “Twenty One Rooms” on July 16. There sound is unique, but it has been described as a mix between The Black Keys and Cold War Kids.
NGHBRS has so many things going for them. Their strong points are their lyrics, vocals, instrumentals, and song variety. Their lyrics emit lots of emotion and are easily relatable. Their vocals enhance the well-written lyrics and match up perfectly. The song instrumentals set the mood and showcase the band’s talents throughout the album. Lastly, NGHBRS does a good job of mixing up the tempo of their song variety. I was never sure what to expect next from them as the album progressed, but they far exceeded my expectations.

The only gripe I could find with “Twenty One Rooms” was that even though most of their songs were good, not everyone might get their message or understand where they are coming from. The album might not have a lot of mainstream success because the songs aren’t exactly radio-ready to appeal to the masses. However, for me personally, I liked their sound and they should stick to it no matter what the general public thinks. These guys make great music and should stick to their roots. My favorite songs were “Beneath the Raging Sun “ and “1990.” I am excited for NGHBRS and cannot wait to see what else they come out with in the future. For those reasons, I am giving this album a “B+.”
