“Promised Land” is an interesting and compelling movie written by and starring Matt Damon and John Krasinski. The main setting for the movie is a small town named McKinley. Steve (Matt Damon) is a corporate salesman for a huge natural gas company that goes to small rural towns to get the local town folk to sign over ownership of their land in exchange for money so his company can have drilling rights. He is the best in the business in his company until he is met with resistance from some of the townspeople and an environmentalist named Dustin (John Krasinski). Along with all the politics and corruption in the natural gas industry, you really get to see how down and dirty big companies can get in “Promised Land.”
I have seen the trailer and heard a bit about “Promised Land,” but I was not really sure what to expect before watching the movie. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the great acting, well-written plot, and good dialogue in the movie. I still can’t explain why, but this was one of those movies I had to watch from beginning to end without any distractions until the concluding scene. The writing and the actions in the movie were that good and they managed to keep my attention all the way through. The rivalry between Steve and Dustin was comical at times, but serious and felt so real. I am not a big environmental advocate, but this movie made me think otherwise with how the world is being handled. That is just a small example of what impressions I got from this movie.
I highly recommend checking out “Promised Land.” If the acting or the plot doesn’t capture your attention, the story’s message will for sure. I loved everything about this movie and I would not mind watching it again. For those reasons, I am giving “Promised Land” an “A.”
