Scrubs fans rejoice as the once seemingly doomed show finds new life again on ABC. All of your favorites are back plus some new faces including a new Chief of Medicine. Creator Bill Lawrence is looking to bring the show back to its original design with a look at more realistic and dramatic storylines while still keeping the unique point of view perspective of J.D. intact.

The first two episodes of the series seem to stick close to what Lawrence has suggested. Episode one titled, My Jerks, is a complete turn around on the series bringing everything back full circle. Everything that fans loved about the first season of Scrubs is back, sort of. I really missed the pop culture references from that first season but J.D.’s perspective is just as immature and hilarious as always while new characters bring a sort of new cynicism that of course always ends up being well, or at least well enough. If anything My Jerks is a homage to the shows roots while plainly instilling a sense of progress in both humor and writing. The second episode titled, My Last Words, is also a promise renewed by Lawrence as J.D. and Turk are torn between a bromantic night and comforting a patient. Probably the better of the two episodes as the humor and the drama balance one another out well. There were a few moments where I grimaced at the delivery of some of the lines but Braff and Faison keep it together and the humor in the show is so off putting that you don’t know weather or not you want to laugh or be offended. Its moments like these that prove why the show is entering its eighth season. Check out the new episodes of Scrubs on ABC beginning January 6th, 2009 at 9 PM.
