The fifth album from Spencer Day, Daybreak, is already available in digital format but if you want an actual CD it releases on June 10th. No matter which format you choose, you'll get a jazz look at the 1960s that'll get your toes tappin' and your fingers snappin'.

The ten songs of Daybreak are made up on five covers of 60s hits and five originals in the jazz style of the same era. Day's originals are fresh and fun, showing a much lighter side than his last album, The Mystery of You. But for me, the real treat are the cover songs.

After loving Nancy Sinatra's version of These Boots Are Made For Walkin' for so long, I never imagined it as a jazz number, but thanks to Spencer Day I've now heard it. This is followed by Never My Love which is just a lovely rendition. And my summer is now complete with his take on Groovin'. His version of World Without Love isn't as good as The Beatles, but it is a servicable one.

The real gem, for me, though was Spencer's rendition of the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic Bad Moon Rising. He manages to make the song his own without disgracing the original. It is a fun take on the song that I really enjoyed listening to.

And while I enjoyed the covers the most, his original tunes are quite good as well. The whole album is a great listen that pulls you in. Spencer Day's Daybreak definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
