The first time I listened to The Red Buttons latest album, As Far As Yesterday Goes, the first thing that came to mind was the Tom Hanks film That Thing You Do. Mind you during the 60’s and 70’s bands that carried this sound were in abundance and in this day and age of taking something old and making it new again I’m alright with what The Red Button does with this new album.

For listeners that lived the age The Red Button might remind you of The Cowsills or The Zombies. The album has this addicting summer pop feel to it that’s totally refreshing and so out of place in today’s market. There’s a smooth mix of guitars, piano, and great harmonies between Seth Swirsky and Mike Reukberg. Swirksy is responsible for several hit songs that he wrote for several top names like Rufus Wainwright, Al Green, and Tina Turner and for his own work he does a fine job. Very solid vocals and catchy lyrics leaving not one throw away track on the album. Experience and know how truly makes As Far As Yesterday Goes a quirky eccentric addition to the pop rock genre but its out of time feel makes for a great twist to give the album a great repeat value. This is a keeper. Enjoy.
