B
Running Time:
2 Hours, 10 Minutes
BOTTOM LINE:

If you were turned off by the first for it's lack of movement and action, 'New Moon' may be the movie to get you into the 'Twilight' craze.

Critics as a whole felt that "New Moon", if ever so slightly was better than "Twilight", but what was their reasoning?  What were they looking for out of this teen romance franchise?

QUALITY:
Great.  The picture is crisp and the sound is lossless, what more could you ask for?

BONUS FEATURES:
3 Music videos, audio commentary (with director and editor), gruelling 6-part documentary.

The special features aren't as in depth as most fans would want because Summit decided to release 146 "exclusives" in 146 different stores (may be an exaggeration) but this review is for the easy to get standard blu-ray that you don't have to hunt down (and the same one you find on amazon to the right).  There are deleted scenes floating around on one or more of those "exclusive" releases but not this one.  The music videos are a nice addition, but the audio commentary doesn't feature any of the "big three" (that would be Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart & Taylor Lautner) but it does feature the editor (yay!).

The movie itself is questionable whether or not it is better than the first and it is really up to the watcher.  I think, for the most part, critics enjoyed 'New Moon' better simply because it had more action and less "build up" than 'Twilight'.  But, let's get this straight; this is a love story, a teenage love story at that, NOT an action franchise.  Essentially, the first movie had more story but could be perceived as more boring because of it.  Personally, I liked the first better.  But, if you were turned off by the first for it's lack of movement and action, 'New Moon' may be the movie to get you into the 'Twilight' craze but if you aren't a fan of vampires, werewolves or campy teen romance, do yourself a favor and just stay away from the franchise completely.
