What Happens In Vegas

In Theatres:
May 09, 2008
Running Time:
1 Hour, 39 Minutes

What Happens In Vegas is somewhat similar to what has happened in countless films as of late; Slacker boy meets hard working girl, a night of drunken fun, a morning of consequences that may bind them together forever. Such is the case for Joy and Jack.  Two polar opposites who enjoy one crazy night in Vegas and wake up the next morning married. Though they can’t really agree on much they agree that an annulment is the answer to their predicament. That is until Jack, using Joy’s quarter, hit’s the triple jackpot of three million dollars. Now both will play dirty to get their hands on the money.

My mind was made up when I went into the theater, which is bad because I’m supposed to be non-bias when reviewing a film, but Diaz and Kutcher have offered more disasters then I care to remember. Fortunately the film gives you a quick introduction of the characters played by both actors and then once that’s out of the way a momentum builds so quickly that you get drawn in. Some of the comedy was throwback, for example; Cameron Diaz gliding across a bar and falling off, been done, but the music is so lively and the scenes so sporadic your not given the time to scrutinize. It’s a real feat in the film because the story is so predictable but with a clever script and well delivered dialogue it doesn’t really matter.

The chemistry between Kutcher and Diaz is undeniable. I haven’t seen a tension filled romcom like this since One Fine Day, well at least one that wowed me, and I was wowed by this film. I thought the entire cast did such a great job and the story was so sweet. I will consider this the best romantic comedy of 2008 so far. So forgive Kutcher for The Guardian and just make believe that there never were any Charlie’s Angels films and give this film a chance and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
