Title: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog: The Book Author: Genre: Entertainment Publisher: Titan Books Pages: 160 Release Date: March 29, 2011 Rating: ( )Grade: B Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog was a great little project from the brains of Joss Whedon, his brothers Jed and Zack, and Maurissa Tancharoen. It was created during the 2007-08 Writers Guild strike as a way to keep work going in the midst of the strike. Launched as an online, three-part musical, it was later released on DVD and now, the circle is complete as a book counterpart has been published. The book features the full shooting script, commentary from the cast and crew, and sheet music of all the songs in the film. Behind-the-scenes photos abound through the book, along with features on fans, Comic-Con and an afterword from Neal Patrick Harris. As a musician, I especially dug the presence of the sheet music…definitely a cool feature. Beyond that, this is a cool peek behind the scenes at the creative process. If you’re a Whedonite, this is definitely worth checking out. I’m not sure how much this would appeal to the general public, but then again, this isn’t really for the general public I suppose. At any rate, check this if you want a laugh and dig musicals…and Nathan Fillon…and Neal Patrick Harris…and Felicia Day. |
