Artist: Atkins/May Project Album: Serpent’s Kiss Genre: Metal Label: AIS Tracks: 10 Type: LP Release Date: November 11, 2011 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: C Confession time: while I am a big fan of metal, most of the bands in this genre that I listen to are more recent groups: ISIS, Mastodon, Cave In, etc. My appreciation of older metal bands (Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest) is more limited. As a result, when I heard that this album was a new collaboration between former Judas Priest vocalist Al Atkins and guitarist Paul May (A.N.D. and Temple Dogs), I really came to the project without any pre-conceived notions. So while it might disappoint some Priest fans to hear this, I have to say that I wasn’t too impressed with this record. The music itself is decent enough, but it definitely sounds dated. The same could be said for the vocals, which just seem tired and rather uninspired. If you’re a fan of what these guys have done in the past, you might enjoy more than I did. As for me, I’ll be throwing on some Cloudkicker and some Between The Buried And Me. |
