Artist: Various Album: Easy Star All-Stars: Dubber Side of the Moon Genre: Reggae/Ska Label: Easy Star Tracks: 13 Type: LP Release Date: October 25, 2010 Discs: 1 Rating: () Grade: C+ Its been seven years since The Easy Star All-Stars put out their reggae tribute to Pink Floyd’s monster album Darkside of the Moon and like Floyd’s version Easy Star All-Star’s have managed to keep their album in the charts since. To be honest with you I can’t say I loved Dubside of the Moon and I do chalk that up to me being a long time Floyd fan and the fact that Easy Star All-Stars have pretty much existed as a tribute band covering Radiohead, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd aside from this Floyd tribute but there’s something to be said for this new remixed album. The album starts off with Speak To me/ Breathe (In The Air) remixed by Dubmatrix. Its been so long since I listened to Dubside of the Moon (Once) that its all fresh to me. This track is reminiscent of The Specials and or a little mix of Mark Ronson’s style of producing. It’s a great track to start off the album with. Time (Groove Corporation Remix) is the next impressive track incorporating Easy Star All-Star’s Reggae groove with a bit of Dance Hall fitting the track in a mix that’s chill but impressive. Us and Them (Dreadzone Remix) has a nice techno beat to it and Easy Star manages to capture the spirit of the original underneath the layers of remix. Probably the most properly done cover made better by a good ear for layering. Eclipse (Victor Rice Remix) is more then likely going to be the obvious stand out track for anyone who listens to the album because it manages to add a layer of bouncy happy vibe to the track which brings it as close to commercially accessible as your going to get for this album. The final track On The Run (j.viewz remix), which is a bonus track, is without a doubt the most impressive and stand out for music lovers which is a jazzy rendition of the track mixing quite well the spirit of the original while adding an exciting fresher sound to it. While the album is obviously not going to contain nothing but home run’s it does supply you with plenty of great tracks and a few that can be ignored or enjoyed. Like most remix albums everyone is going to have their favorites. Clearly mine are those mentioned above but all in all its definitely an album that’s worth giving a listen to. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy. 01. Speak to me/breathe in the air (dubmatix remix) 3:51
