Josh Turner must be madly in love with his wife because his fourth album is filled with love songs.
The Deluxe Edition of the album comes with four extra tracks including a live cut of his 2003 hit “Long Black Train” and video downloads of "Why Don't We Just Dance" and behind-the-scenes. His characteristic baritone is still definitely his selling point, and he shows off his vocal range throughout this album.
Together with Turner’s deep masculine voice, the love themed lyrics will woo many female country music fans. While he sings about his woman, he also does not shy away from expressing his love for God. “The Answer”, a Gospel influenced song, is a welcome change in this album. However, unfortunately, the album as a whole is still a little bit cluttered with too many love songs for me. Don’t get me wrong, there are variations within his vocal range, and different rhythms and tempos, but overall the songs in this album are not as distinctive as his voice.
Haywire certainly satisfies country music listeners who enjoy straightforward love songs by a male country music artist, who has a distinctive voice and sings simple, sincere and meaningful lyrics. Nevertheless, more unique tunes and themes would make this album even more noteworthy and interesting for a wider range of listeners.
