Factoid:

The first single from the album, the title track "Born This Way," set a music industry record by becoming the fastest single in history to reach sales of 1,000,000 copies (five days after its February 11th release). Only the 19th single to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (issue date February 26, 2011), the recording was Lady Gaga's third #1 on the chart. ~Amazon

I have a confession to make. Back when Lady Gaga hit the airwaves I was given the opportunity to review her album. It quickly became one of my guilty pleasures. Then I went on to miss the rest of her releases (a deluxe version of the first album and Born This Way). When I found this remix album of Born This Way in my workload I immediately hoped that by not having listened to the original album I wasn’t going to be doing the remix album any type of disservice. Fortunately the remix album is a creature all its own.

There is a very diverse group of artists on the album that provide some great remixes and who should be familiar to most. You've got Goldfrapp, Foster The People, The Horrors, Two Door Cinema Club, and Metronomy, to name the most obvious ones as well as others I had never heard of nor seen on any other remix albums, not to say you haven’t. The first track off the album is the title track remixed by Zedd. It’s a bit slow getting into it at almost two minutes for the intro but it has that hard club sound to it which reminded me of a cross between The Bloody Beetroots and, well, maybe just Zedd. It was a good start to the album.

Goldfrapp tackles Judas. Goldfrapp doesn’t do much to bring the song into any form of enjoyment for me so I’ll move on to the Foster The People remix of The Edge of Glory. Its kind of your basic club anthem remix which is pretty harmless and fun. It has that energy you should be used to with Lady Gaga’s sound. Then following that you have the Wild Beasts remix for You and I which is a limp track that feels out of place coming in off that energetic remix from Foster The People. Hardly a club track, more like a space out tune for laying around being lazy and listening to music. Ain’t nothing wrong with that but it causes a bit of drag. Things don’t pick up with the next track, Marry The Night, remixed by The Weekend and Illangelo.

Just when I think the album couldn’t feel more off beat it gets a nice little pick me up from the Michael Woods remix of Black Jesus. Like the Foster The People remix its not going to knock your socks off but its proper club music with energy and a bit of its own personality in the mix and then, The Horrors. What can I say about this track other then I understand what their trying to do with the Bloody Mary track. Its got a slow Goth like feel to it but, again, its just slotted in-between two killer energetic tracks which cause drag.

The album picks up again with my favorite, the remix by Guena LG Club for Scheisse. This one is hard hitting and extremely energetic with a hint of EBM and proper techno club vibe. If any track should represent this remix album I’d have to say this is it. As for the rest of the album, six more tunes to polish off the 14 track album, its all pretty good from here on, give or take how you may feel about Metronomy’s remix of You and I. I thought it was a bit slow but better directed then the rest of the slower tracks on the album. In any case a great addition for Lady Gaga fans. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy.
