Interesting Tidbits

The apple pie used in this movie was bought at Costco.

"American Pie" was released in theaters back in 1999. Riding on the anticipation of the series' new movie, American Reunion, releasing this week, they decided to release the previous movies in Blu-ray format. This movie was an instant comedy classic that launched the careers of several budding new actors. In the first movie, Jim (Jason Biggs) and his 3 friends are in high school and make a pact to lose their virginity before prom time. Everything that happens before then is filled with awkward moments and memorable scenes.

In the Blu-ray version of the movie, they included tons of extras to please any fans of the series and make new fans of first time viewers. Besides deleted scenes and bloopers, they also gave viewers loads of cast interviews, several featurettes, cast commentary, and anything and everything you wanted to know about the movie. This was also the unrated version of the movie, which meant bonus scenes, more nudity, and more of the film you couldn't see in theaters. Couple these great bonuses with sharper picture quality and better sound quality, and you have a pretty good Blu-ray package. I was surprised at how much I didn’t know about the movie until I watched everything all over again and each of the bonus items.

I saw this movie when it was in theaters and have already seen it numerous times. This was my favorite movie in the series and was a lot funnier and more interesting than the following sequels. I enjoyed it because of the nostalgia, but it may come off as a bit outdated for the newer generations. Regardless, it still had a lot of funny jokes (such as the origin of the MILF) and great one liners from Stifler (Seann William Scott), who is one of my favorite characters. “American Pie” is still worth a watch whether you’ve already seen it before or not. For those reasons, I am giving this movie a “B+.”
