Title: Garfield's Pet Force Genre: Animation Starring: Frank Welker Director: Mark A.Z. Dippe and Wonjae Lee Studio: 20th Century Fox Runtime: 78 Minutes Release Date: June 16, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: () Grade: A+ Did You Know? Mark A.Z. Dippe's film debut as a director was 1997's Spawn. In Garfield’s newest DVD adventure cute cuddly kitten Nermal reads a comic book about an interstellar team of super pet’s who do battle with an evil villainous who wants nothing more then to conquer the world. When things go wrong in the comic book the leader of the super pets somehow travels to the comic strip world where he enlists the help of Odie, Arlene, Nermal, and Garfield. Can the unlikely heroes prevail or will disaster send both their worlds into the clutches of the evil villainous who will stop at nothing to crush the super pets and rule the universe? If you ever end up thinking about owning any Garfield DVD this would probably be the one I would recommend. It reminds me a bit of Sharkboy and Lava Girl or The Neverending Story where reading leads to an unexpected adventure but that’s not all. This is a superhero story, a zombie story, and later a story about ragtag misfits who banned together to overcome the seemingly impossible. In the adult world the story isn’t anything revolutionary but for a kids film it utilizes the flavors of the week in a spectacular fashion giving kids a little taste of everything but at a pace they can enjoy. Another really amazing aspect of the flick is that it was so potently colorful and defined. Pixar comes to mind as far as the vivid world of color and brightness, not so much the animation, but it’s a close second as far as quality goes. I recall seeing the earlier Garfield films and not being as excited as I was here. Maybe the older ones just don’t live up or maybe I wasn’t really looking but its amazing and adds depth to an already great total package. Bonus features include a DVD-ROM game titled Professor Wally’s Moscrambulator. Maybe not the best special feature ever included on a disc but the film pays for itself. Absolutely worth a rental and if you love it like I do go out and grab yourself a copy and enjoy. Pictures: |
