Title: Hardwired Genre: Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi Starring: Cuba Gooding Jr., Val Kilmer, Robert Clarke, Alastair Gamble, Matt Anderson, Rob Carpenter, Dave Cote Director: Ernie Barbarash Studio: Sony Pictures Runtime: 94 minutes Release Date: November 3, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: () Grade: F Bonus Features Connecting The Circuits (Making Of with interviews & behind the scenes) & Previews Luke Gibson and his wife are in a horrible car wreck and when he comes to he has no memory. Worse yet he is having what he thinks are hallucinations of various people attempting to sell him items. When he questions it he is punished by having agonizing pains sent through his brain. Soon though he discovers the truth, a larger corporation has been implanting programs into people’s heads to test their new advertising campaign. Luke teams up with a group of hackers that are determined to stop the corporation before it can cause any more harm. Imagine taking the abundance of advertising and how the world sells out aspect of “Idiocracy” (but with none of the humor) and then mix in the I-have-to-get-something-out-of-my-head nature of “Johnny Mnemonic” (without the fun sci-fi cheesy factor) and you have an idea of what “Hardwired” is. The acting is sloppy, Val Kilmer’s hair looks like a horrible wig (the picture on the cover is wrong), the action is lackluster, there is lots of downtime, and truthfully I didn’t care about anyone involved. “Hardwired” is just another sci-fi/action movie starring slightly washed up actors that is quickly pushed out with subpar effects & storyline just to try and make a few bucks. It will set on shelves at stores for a short amount of time gathering dust before it finds a home in the $5 bin. Then will probably air at some point on the Syfy channel at 2AM one random morning when a similar storyline is made into a blockbuster or somehow Gooding or Kilmer manage to attempt and salvage their careers and score a decent role in a theatrical movie. My advice just skip it, watch “Johnny Mnemonic” instead at least that one isn’t trying to take itself seriously and has some fun. |
