Title: Kevin Smith 3-Movie Collection (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) Genre: Comedy Starring: Jeff Anderson, Brian O'Halloran, Jason Mewes, Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Lee, Eliza Dushku, Shannon Elizabeth, Will Ferrell, Ali Larter, Chris Rock Director: Kevin Smith Studio: Miramax Runtime: 309 Minutes Release Date: November 17, 2009 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 3 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: A- When you think of directors in need of a blu-ray box set, what directors do you think of? Steven Spielberg? George Lucas? Ridley Scott? How about Kevin Smith, the irreverent and dialogue-driven director of Clerks, Chasing Amy and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back? Probably not, but he is getting the director's box treatment before those heavy-hitters and becomes one of, if not THE first director to get it overall. Smith has directed 8 feature films, 6 of which have now been released on blu-ray (Jersey Girl has no release set and neither does Mallrats, though Universal previously released the latter on HD-DVD). QUALITY: Chasing Amy - Good. This was always one of my favorite KS movies as it showed alot of promise in the then-young director and seeing Disney make the proper transfer is a good show of respect to one of Smith's most highly rated (yet commercially underrated) movies. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - It's a great transfer but I won't bother getting in depth with it as this was previously released and nothing changed. BONUS FEATURES: Chasing Amy - Deleted scenes, outtakes, trailer and 4 new BD features; Q&A with Smith and crew, a conversation with Kevin and Joey Lauren Adams, a documentary on the making of the film and commentary with Kevin Smith and producer Scott Mosier. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - Commentary and, ummm....that "making of" feature back on the Clerks BD. The release is a decent one with surprisingly good transfers on all 3 flicks. The inclusion of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back is good but it jacks up the price to the set which is a shame because most die-hard Smith fans are already going to have owned the BD (as this was not one of his more popular flicks). Luckily Miramax decided to coincide the break-out releases of Clerks and Chasing Amy instead of waiting a few months to screw over fans. Loaded with bonus features and good transfers, this set is definetely worth your buck. Pictures: |
