Now this is how you release a restored version of a classic animated film. This Diamond Edition of Snow White includes two Blu-Ray discs and one regular DVD (presumably for cross-country trips in the mini-van or something). Apparently this is the launch of a new Diamond collection from the Disney “vaults.” If they’re all going to be of this caliber, fans are in for a real treat. I’m going to assume that you’re already familiar with the basics of this fairy tale, so let’s skip to meat of this release.

QUALITY:

Fantastic! The restoration to the original print looks terrific on Blu-Ray and the sound quality is stellar. The whole release has great clarity and detail throughout. The colors are vibrant and strong, without looking garish.

BONUS FEATURES:

Lots of fun stuff here: games, behind-the-scenes features, and a crazy mirror-mirror menu that seems to know a little too much about you and your life. It’s a kind of eerie. This release also continues something called DisneyView (introduced earlier this year with the re-release of Pinocchio), which is basically their version of widescreen formatting, with film art in the black bars for 16:9 formatted widescreen TVs. It’s an interesting addition.

So there you have it. If you don’t already own a copy of this classic, now would be a good time to snag one. I’m really curious to see how the rest of these releases progress, as Disney’s set the bar pretty high with this one.
