Title: The Tale of Despereaux Genre: Animation, Comedy, Family, Kids Starring: Matthew Broderick, Robbie Coltrane, Dustin Hoffman, Richard Jenkins, Kevin Kline, Frank Langella, William H. Macy, Tracey Ullman, Emma Watson, Sigourney Weaver Director: Sam Fell, Rob Stevenhagen Studio: Universal Runtime: 94 Minutes Release Date: April 7, 2009 Format: BLU-RAY MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: A- DID YOU KNOW? Justin Long was originally slated to play the title character, Despereaux. Ultimately, the role went to Matthew Broderick. The Tale of Despereaux is a non-Pixar, non-Dreamworks CGI movie for kids. We all know how that usually goes. It's hard enough for Dreamworks to attempt to compete with Pixar, let alone Universal, famous for...well, nothing in CGI really. QUALITY: The bonus features won't provide much entertainment for kids but the movie itself is a surprising win. Cute, funny, action filled and heart warming, The Tale of Despereaux exceeds expectations even if it were a Dreamworks movie. It's not quite on par with Pixar, but it's certainly worth a watch. The quality of the blu-ray is phenomenal and is also on par with Dreamworks releases. The transfer is absolutely beautiful, allowing no errors or marks throughout the course of the movie and bonus features. |
