Title: The Women Genre: Comedy Starring: Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith, Carrie Fisher, Cloris Leachman, Bette Midler, Candice Bergen, Meg Ryan, Debi Mazar Director: Diane English Studio: Warner Home Video Runtime: 114 Minutes Release Date: December 19, 2008 Format: BLU-RAY MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D- BET YOU DIDN'T CARE: In the late 1970's a remake of the 1939 classic was proposed to star Jane Fonda, Barbra Streisand, and Faye Dunaway, but it was not made. This film was a failure from the start. In an attempt for "equality", the director decided to make all characters in the movie female. And I mean ALL. That is, every extra, sub character and main character, EVERYONE. This isn't exactly equality, but the complete opposite. But, that is far from the only reason that this movie fails as it completely falters on every level. QUALITY: BONUS FEATURES: The movie is one large gimmick wrapped around a shoddy storyline, subpar acting and bad direction. While the movie has nothing to save it from the impending train wreck, the DVD itself also gives no aid. Pointless featurettes and rightly deleted scenes, the only saving grace of this release is the decent picture quality. |
