Title: Visions of Britain And Ireland Genre: Documentary Studio: Acorn Media Runtime: 296 minutes Release Date: August 18, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 4 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: A Bonus Features Additional Footage Breathtakingly beautiful. I was loving every second of footage. You get 75 minutes of England, 75 minutes of Ireland, 58 minutes of Wales, and 88 minutes of Scotland. The view is aerial and while it can be a little distant at times many slowly zoom in giving you a better view. While you are staring at Loch Ness, Stonehenge, Dublin, and Mount Snowdon (among many others) you will be treated to music of the land. Narration will keep you on track of what you are seeing, where it is located, and small facts about the location. Now a couple of things I want to put out there because this release is really good; but it could possibly disappoint if you do not know what exactly you are going to get. First you are not going to get a tour of any of the place nor are you going to get any inside footage. You get and outside aerial view only. Next since they are showing you the landscape and sights you are going to hit a lot of places and only spend a little time at each area. I found myself really wanting to learn more about many of the places and wishing that there was more narration given; but this is not a history release so it makes since to not bombard you with fact after fact. And finally while I enjoyed hearing the different accents the narration could possibly lose you a little here or there; but personally I had no problem understanding what was being said. As long as you go in knowing you are getting pretty much an outside tour of England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland and only that you should be very pleased. The only thing running through my mind while watching was “Oh I want to go there”. Stunning video and I’m glad that I was able to be the one to review it. It has also been released on Blu-Ray and if you have the ability to watch that way I would urge you to pick it up instead of straight DVD. I have not seen the quality of the footage; but scenes like this deserve the best quality out there. |
