Title: Cladun: This is an RPG! Genre: Action/Adventure, Role Playing (RPG) Publisher: NIS America Available Consoles: Playstation Portable (PSP) Reviewed Consoles: Playstation Portable (PSP) Ship Date: September 21, 2010 Players: 1-4 In case you couldn't tell from the title, Cladun is an RPG from NIS America, the same developers who have brought us great series such as Disgaea and Phantom Brave. Cladun is an action/adventure RPG rather than the typical turn-based strategy and features all new characters and a unique storyline. First thing you'll notice are the graphics which resemble the classic pixelated blobs we saw back on the old NES days. Make no mistake, this is completely intentional, and almost gives the game a 3D Dot Game Heroes vibe, minus the whole 3D aspect. The make the experience even more nostalgic, you can choose whether to have the music be in 8 bit as well. Gameplay revolves around a cental location called Arcanus Cella. From there you can enter various dungeons where you'll encounter enemies, traps, treasures, and other goodies. The battle system might appear simple but it's actually pretty in depth. While you'll only be controlling a single character at any given moment, you can increase your abilities and stats through the use of the "Magic Circle." It something that's easy to learn but will probably be difficult to master. What's really cool about Cladun is that you can end it at any time. I managed to beat the game within the first seven minutes! Granted I never entered a dungeon or talked to anybody but the option is always there and I imagine the endings will vary depending on how far along in the story you are. Boasting a character editor, a randomly generated dungeon that changes each time you enter it, and even multiplayer, Cladun: This is an RPG! packs quite the punch for your PSP system. Be sure to look for a full review in the coming weeks! Pictures: |
