Title: Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs Genre: Action/Adventure, Kids Publisher: Activision Available Consoles: Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Personal Computer (PC), Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 Reviewed Consoles: Playstation 3 Ship Date: June 30, 2009 Players: 1-4 Rating: () Grade: C As far as movie based kids video games this one is pretty standard. You have different characters from the movie that you will control going through a variety of mini-challenges. - You will either be chasing down or running from a creature having to dodge other animals, avoid holes, slipping on ice, and taking sharp turns. - Balanced on top of a ball you will have to navigate across rocks that tip, run over enemies, and knock other creatures off the side that are also on top of a ball. - As Skrat you will have to find your way to the nut jumping on ledges, climbing upside down, and rocketing yourself to the top using plants. - Most of the challenges though have you as Buck. With him you will need to defeat enemies by shooting them or whipping them or throwing berries at them. Navigate by jumping from wall to wall, wall run, hop from large leaf to leaf, whip your way across drops, and run down vines avoiding spikes will get you through the levels. As you play there will be various fruits lying around, collect them to buy upgrades in health or crystals. You can also find crystals hidden on all levels. Collect enough of one color and you can open up video, audio, or artwork. If you want to play with a friend there are mini-games that you can compete against each other. Follow Sid as he cheers, whack a mole, roll on top of a ball and knock the other out of the ring and more. The game is not horrible, and at times it is really fun and addicting. But it is really short, taking me only a few hours to beat. You can adjust the camera view on many of the levels. The issue here is that sometimes when you try to move the camera around it will zoom all the way in and you will be unable to pull it back out without moving your character first. In fact there are many glitches in this game, seems like they may have rushed it a bit too much to come out in time for the movie. While most of the game is pretty easy to work your way through there are a few times that things can get frustrating as it is more about camera views and glitches than difficulty. If you buy this for a younger child be ready to hear them calling you to help them get past certain challenges. |
