TODD PHILLIPS STRIKES AGAIN

It might not be as good as The Hangover, but it will definitely tie us over until The Hangover 2 arrives next year.

It's been a while since we've seen Zach Galifianakis in a laugh out loud role such as The Hangover. He's had some strong films including Dinner for Schmucks and It's Kind of a Funny Story but nothing close to the Las Vegas comedy. Can director Todd Phillips returns Galifianakis to his glory days with Due Date?

Due Date puts Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. in one car embarking on the 1,900 mile journey between Atlanta to Los Angeles. From those two details along, you know it's going to be a long and interesting ride.

Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) is an aspiring actor headed to Hollywood to jumpstart his career. While at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta, he meets Peter Highman (Downey Jr.), an expecting father who is also headed to LA for the birth of his first child. Due, to a series of unfortunate events, the two end up being kicked off the plane and put on the no fly list. This would only be one of the many bumps in the road along the way.

Ethan is a 7 year old in a 30 year old's body. He's an innocent little kid who continues to ask questions and annoy the hell out of you but in the end, you can't just leave him behind. He's the guy who even though he screws up nine times out of 10, it's that one good gesture that redeems his character. He's an idiot and a pest, but most importantly he's hilarious. From his peppy walking demeanor to random quirks, Galifianakis manages to return to the lovable fat Jesus we enjoyed so much in The Hangover.

Peter can be seen as the exact opposite of Ethan. He's a businessman who is in a rush to get home to his pregnant wife. His one downfall is that he can sometimes let his anger get the best of him and that's when we see Downey Jr. at his best in the film. The tirades he goes on are simply priceless and at one point he even knocks a kid out with one punch to the gut.

Due Date is a laugh out loud comedy that you'll have to see twice because you'll miss half the jokes from the theater being so loud. I know this because that's what happened when I saw it. Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. make an unlikely but hilarious pair that can't seem to get away from each other. It might not be as good as The Hangover, but it will definitely tie us over until The Hangover 2 arrives next year.

Not the Hangover

I went to this movie with high expectations. It was funny, but not as much as I had hoped for. If you go into it expecting it to be as funny as The Hangover, you may find yourself disappointed.
