Title: Fighting Genre: Action/Adventure Starring: Channing Tatum, Terrence Howard, Zulay Henao, Luis Guzman Director: Dito Montiel Studio: Rogue Pictures Runtime: 105 minutes In Theatres: April 24, 2009 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: C- Shawn MacArthur is down on his luck and is in desperate need of some cash. When he defends himself from being hustled on the streets of New York City, business man and street fighting coach Harvey Boarden takes notice. Now, Shawn is caught up in a world where the stakes become greater and greater. For a film about street fighting, I was actually rather bored watching it. Whether it's the almost unbearable acting of Terrence Howard or the side love story of Channing Tatum and Zulay Henao, I'm not sure. It's probably a mixture of both. Let's start with the acting, shall we? Terrence Howard is a great actor who has quite the record with films including Ray, Crash, Hustle & Flow, and more recently, Iron Man. Unfortunately, his greatness does not shine through with this role as it is clouded by the never ending sound of his voice. Everything that comes out of his mouth sounds pathetic and whiney. Even though his actions show confidence, when he speaks, it simply fades away. From the beginning right up until the end, there was never a point where he didn't make me cringe. Channing Tatum seems to be on the rise and he does quite well in this film, at least fighting wise. The battles are brutal and painful; showcasing the barbaric actions of man. Interestingly, I expected a little more fighting in the film but was satisfied with what was presented. The fight scenes do not make up for the dull story and even duller acting though. I was more concentrated as to when the film would end rather than what was going on. Besides, it's highly predictable so it's not like I didn't know what was going to happen. I'd wait to see this on DVD as paying full ticket price isn't worth it. |

Fighting
All fighting movies are basically the same, very predictable. It's not all bad, but I rather put my entertainment value on something else.
Fighting
It was neither good nor bad, it was just alright. It should have just gone to video maybe.
Sorry!
Fighting
It was better that I expected.
Fake
Ok movie, too predictable from the first minutes. Few problems with this movie though: the main character Shawn won every single fight in the movie, even against the impossibles like a super Chinese martial artist. Second, actor Channing Tatum is too tall and too good looking to play a character that lives off selling craps on the streets of NYC for pennies. He could have worked as a model (which Tatum did in real life), a waiter, a bartender, or something, instead of being dead broke and sleeping in public parks until he was "discovered". Yes, this movie should have gone straight to the dollar bin at Blockbuster video and Shawn could take a box of them to sell at Central Park.
wtf
"He's too tall and good looking to live off selling craps on the streets"? Since when are all hustlers short and ugly? And, since when are all waiters and bartenders tall and good looking? "He could have worked as a model" Do you really think it's that easy? You just walk into Calvin Klein and say "hey, I'm tall and good lucking, put me in an ad, I'm Channing Tatum in real life". It sounds to me like you might be someone who has always had things handed to them and never had to actually struggle or work for something.
wtf
That's where you are wrong. I was not born with a silver spoon, but quite the contrary. However I have enough drive and intelligence to make things happen for me. If I was tall, handsome and had a college education like Shawn (oh I do have a college education), I would not be selling cheap umbrellas to make a living or sleeping on a park bench. Show me 1 good looking, educated homeless person, and I will show you 90,000 otherwise in LA alone (watch The Soloist). By the way, why don't you log in to Shakefire and show yourself before making personal attack. Nonetheless, this board is designed for movie reviews, not for attacking other members. Please try not to mess it up. Thank you
Better than expected
Missed the screening but I think it was worth paying for it. I found it better than expected!
