Factoid:

A song called "Same Changes" by The Weepies was recorded exclusively for the film

After being dismissed from her long time job as producer for a New Jersey television morning show Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams) finds herself tasked with her new job working for IBS trying to make their morning show, a known critical failure, a success. She quickly fires the male anchor on the show, played by Modern Family’s Ty Burrell, hoping to raise morale and finds a replacement in veteran reporter Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford) who unwillingly takes the job. Fuller must help raise the ratings of the show and balance her social life without going crazy. Also stars Jeff Goldblum, Diane Keaton, and Patrick Wilson. Morning Glory is directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill) and written by Aline Brosh McKenna (27 Dresses, Fame, The Devil Wears Prada).

Like the trailer for the film your going to get a lot of laughs out of Morning Glory but sadly it’s a film that under uses its big name actors, tries to work as a romantic comedy without putting to much emphasis on romance, and, even though it works, uses a lot of recycled themes from other films. Morning Glory is, in a nutshell, the story of a woman whose personal life is non-existent and whose professional life is a living hell as she tackles a failing morning show. Though the amazingly talented Patrick Wilson is slotted as McAdams’ love interest he’s more of a comic relief, when he’s in the film. They really could have done so much more with his character. Harrison Ford? Seriously they could have had him phone his lines in and used a cardboard cut out. He had his moments in the film with one liners but basically he was all together absent. Diane Keaton absolutely steals the show in the film coming off like a drunk Aunt having a good time in the background. Basically though the film attempts a story about a woman’s ambition but fails to utilize an engaging story with its background characters which ultimately drags down any chance of making this one memorable. Will you enjoy it? Yes. Will it change your life? Not in the slightest. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy.
