Paranormal Activity was the surprise hit of last year, making more than $100 million on a budget of less than one million dollars. It was safe to presume that a sequel would be inevitable.

Oren Peli, the director, writer, and basically man in charge of the first film is back but only as a producer. Don't worry though because Paranormal Activity 2 doesn't change much in terms of style. The film is seen through a series of cameras that including stationary security cameras set up around the house. Now the audience gets multiple perspectives of whatever lurks inside this house.

I won't go into much detail on the story of Paranormal Activity 2 because that unknown is part of what makes the film work so well. A family installs security cameras after they experience a "break-in" one night in which nothing was stolen. Night after night though, weird things continue to happen and the family begins to realize that something is definitely wrong. That's about as basic as it gets.

You're going to definitely want to watch the first film before seeing this one because it intricately weaves itself into the film's story. I must say that by the end of it, I was amazed with what director Tod Williams and the production team had done.

Like the first, Paranormal Activity 2 is slow towards the beginning and then builds up to a fantastic finish. Things that seem innocent, such as the pool cleaner appearing outside the pool every morning, eventually turn diabolical as the demon haunting the house becomes violent and aggressive. Even though you know something is about to happen you don't know what that something is, and that's what makes it so thrilling. There is a bit more humor involved this time around than I would have liked but it breaks up the frights so you're not constantly on edge.

The shocks are bigger than before and now with multiple camera angles to watch from, they're all the more frightening. Not only that but there's a baby involved this time around. Real primal fear is the key element in the film. Your house is supposed to be the place you feel safest. That's obviously not the case here.

Paranormal Activity 2 is the scariest movie you'll see this year. You'll look for every shadow and listen to every noise. You can't help but be drawn into the story and genuinely care about the family portrayed. If you're a fan of pyschological horror, then you'll love this film.

Dead On!

I completely agree with you, Matt. I loved the first P.A and this was such a perfect addition. Just as good as the original.
Great writing, also! Keep up the great work!

Just as great as the first!

I was a little worried going in, as sequels generally are not as good as the originals. However, Paranormal Activity 2 was just as awesome as the first. If you want a good scary movie, go see this one.
