Written and directed by Julio DePietro, "The Good Guy" is a romance dramedy featuring the likes of Bryan Greenberg (Daniel Seaver), Scott Porter (Tommy Fielding), Alexis Bledel (Beth Vest), and Anna Chlumsky (Lisa). Set in New York City, DePietro seeks to show a nitty grittier side of life and love, focusing on the high-stakes, high-pain, high-speed worlds of both Wall Street and the NY dating scene. DePietro actually used to work at a Chicago investment firm for several years, so he wanted to use his unique vantage point to show what people were really like in that world.

Classified as more of an independent film, I hadn't actually heard anything about this movie before seeing it. Also, I'm not very much into the financial world, so I have pretty limited experiences with that. That said, I thought the parallels drawn between Wall Street and dating were decent enough and the movie itself, though reasonably predictable, was still unique enough in its concept to keep me enthralled.

I'm a fan of when movies set in NYC are actually filmed on location in NYC. NY has a unique feel to it that doesn't seem to be captured quite as well when it's not actually filmed here. Overall, the cinematography was pretty good, using some good locations, though nothing spectacular. Similarly, the music was not very memorable, which is also a good thing because it didn't negatively stand out either. I will say that the acting was pretty good and each of the main actors (Bryan, Scott, and Alexis) did a good job portraying their characters, flaws and all.

Overall, I'd say this was a pretty average movie. Nothing really standing out about the movie, other than its slightly less than conventional point of view on the narrator. It's not a bad movie, and worth a watch, though I'm not sure how much effort I'd put into seeing it before it comes out on DVD. I certainly liked it better than other movies in the same genre out right now (I'm lookin' at you, Valentine's Day...)
