Show: Blood Ties Season/Volume: Season One Genre: Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy Starring: Christina Cox, Kyle Schmid, Dylan Neal, Gina Holden, Françoise Yip Studio: Vivendi Entertainment Runtime: 615 minutes Release Date: June 2, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 4 Rating: ( )Grade: C- Vicki Nelson is an ex-cop that has taken on being a private investigator. While on a case Vicki meets Henry Fitzroy, a charming graphic novelist that also happens to be a vampire. Soon Vicki is plunged into a world of supernatural events and beings of legends that she never knew existed. Henry starts to work with Vicki on cases using his vampire powers to get in places or question people. Vicki’s ex-partner Mike Celluci also crosses paths as many of his investigations intertwine with Vicki’s. As Vicki grows closer to Henry, Mike worries for her safety. There are similarities between “Blood Ties” and “Moonlight”. “Moonlight” has a vampire working with a journalist looking into crimes which most involve other vampires. The focus of “Moonlight” is mostly on the vampire Mick St. John. “Blood Ties” you have a P.I. and vampire working together to solve cases that have all different types of supernatural beings behind it and focuses mainly on human Vicki. From what I saw “Moonlight” is a little stronger of a show than “Blood Ties”. This is mainly because of the special effects. In “Blood Ties” some of the creatures or openings to other worlds can look pretty bad. But where it seems “Moonlight” attempts to stay serious and has an ongoing story of St. John’s past life “Blood Ties” is a little more light-hearted and doesn’t take itself as seriously. As far as vampires shows go this one isn’t going to be at the top of the list; but it is not terrible either. If you do like the style that “Moonlight” uses then there is a good chance you will like “Blood Ties”. Hopefully in season 2 they will put a little more focus on Henry and his past, after all he is a son of Henry VIII. We get a few small mentions here or there in conversation but nothing to really flesh out his character. There are only two bonus features on this release. First being the commercial for the show. But the second is much more impressive. It is the “Inner Space: Behind The Scenes” feature that was done on the show. You will get interviews with the cast, crew, and author Tanya Huff who wrote the books that the show is based on. They talk about everything from storylines to characters to fight scenes. Episodes: |
