Show: Blood Ties Season/Volume: Season Two Genre: Drama Starring: Christina Cox, Kyle Schmid, Dylan Neal, Francois Yip Studio: Vivendi Entertainment Runtime: 410 Minutes Release Date: October 6, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 3 Rating: ( )Grade: D+ Adapted from the Tanya Huff Blood Books series, Blood Ties follows Private Detective Vicki Nelson, a former police officer, and her Vampire colleague Henry as they solve cases that somehow always manage to involve the supernatural. Detective Mike Celluci, Vicki’s former partner and lover, is their man on the inside who doesn’t trust Henry and is slowly but surely starting to believe in the unknown. First off the sets bonus features are next to none. You’ve got a photo gallery and a trailer for the first season DVD and that’s it. Out of the 9 episodes in the series I was only really impressed by one, Drawn and Quartered, the rest of the series is overloaded with over dramatic acting and very bad dialogue. The need to be cool or pull off tough completely outweighs the quality of the series and when Henry goes vamp half the time its almost comical rather then horrifying or impressive. The special effects in the series leave a lot to be desired as well. So combined with the really bad dialogue, cheesy special effects, and the overdramatic acting there really wasn’t much to love about the show. I tried, and I’m known to geek out about the supernatural, but this was all cosmetic approach with no depth. |
