Show: Dragonaut The Resonance Season/Volume: Part One Genre: Anime Starring: Colleen Clinkenbeard, Justin Pate Studio: Funimation Runtime: 323 minutes Release Date: November 3, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 2 Rating: () Grade: D Bonus Features Commentary on Epi. 10, Textless opening & closing, & Trailers Jin has felt alone in the world since his whole family died tragically; but when he meets Toa he finally feels like he has found the missing piece. But Toa is a dragon (they can take on both human and dragon form) and Jin is quickly wrapped up into a world he didn’t know existed. Together they will have to work things out and save Earth. Really there are a lot of storylines going on here. You have the attempt at star-crossed lovers with Jin & Toa, the fight going on between childhood friends Jin & Kazuki, Gio the other dragon that feels his duty it to protect Toa & follow Jin, different agencies that either are trying to study/steal/use the dragons, and then there is the impending doom of Earth. It feels jumbled and at the same time each story is kept very simple so you never get lost. I was greatly disappointed with the dragons. The CGI is very boxy and amateur looking giving the dragons a “Bakugan” look, sad because dragons can be awesome. But what they lack in story and animation they more than make up for with skimpy clothes, large boobs, and other sexual bouncy shots of the characters. Truthfully I think because so much focus is put on the sexual and at times over the top goofiness of the anatomy of the characters it is hard to take anything else seriously about “Dragonaut” (darn only got 2 double entendres with that sentence). Anyway a simple watch with standard characters, and not much more than a T&A anime. Great for the 80’s, weak for now. |
