Dinosaurs, yep I said dinosaurs, unknown monsters, clones, past, future, and all kinds of other weird events happen in this show Primeval. Now here is the description from the back of the DVD case. Nick Cutter (played by Douglas Henshall) is fighting to re-focus his embattled team which is still reeling from Stephen's death and Helen's betrayal. Cutter's crew is joined by some new recruits in the form of maverick policeman Danny Quinn (played by Jason Flemyng), sparky Egyptologist Sarah Page (played by Laila Rouass), and the new leader of the ARC's security forces Captain Becker (played by Ben Mansfield). But as the anomalies continue to present an unrelenting series of threats, the task at hand seems almost impossible. And it's not just dangerous creatures the team has to contend with; the cloak of secrecy behind which they have been working is beginning to slip, and questions are being asked as the conspiracy spreads its net wide. As deadlier creatures continue to rampage through the anomalies, the team faces a threat to the future of not just the ARC but of mankind itself...

Whoa, now that is a description that has a lot to say but really don't say much as to what this show is about. I'm guessing that with this being series 3 or season 3, however you want to look at it, most people will have already seen the first 2 seasons and knows what is going on already. I however have not seen the show until now and I jump right into it with this DVD of Volume Two, which by the way is season 3 of the show but I don't know why it's called volume two. At any rate, with it being the first time watching this show the description given on the back cover didn't help me out at all in knowing what I was about to watch. By the time I finished the show, I got the gist of the description but still am a little confused as to what is going on with the show.

Jumping right off I was already confused with the story line. Some sort of glowing bubble that looks like it's filled with broken shards of glass called the anomaly just appears out of nowhere to let out these creatures that range from what is supposed to be cute to the big ugly creatures that want to eat people. Once these creatures appear or the anomalies appear this team that calls themselves the ARC go out to fight or make sure that the creatures don't get out while trying to keep this a secret. How they do this I don't know, I would figure that the giant prehistoric crocodile walking around and swimming in the river would be something seen and talked about, but maybe that's just me.

Regardless though of not knowing the basic plot of the show and coming into it at the third season I was still drawn into the show. With it being a BBC show the actors all have that cool accent that just makes things a little more interesting and the jokes a little funnier. At the same time I was liking the special effects of the creatures running around. I was amazed at how well made this show is. The effects are done so well that they could be used in a movie. With some shows the CGI will look good but the blending in with the environment won't come over well. With Primeval the effects are blended in well enough that they look like they are really there. So even though I know they are fake I was having a hard time seeing the lines of the effect.

Going with the special effects of the show there is the cast. I wouldn't say that they are the greatest actors ever but the cast of Primeval is decent. For me what I liked about the acting is that the cast meshes well together and though they are just mediocre actors the meshing they have with each other goes a long way in letting me enjoy what I see. The down side to Primeval is that there was some story lines that I thought was just way too out there and then there are the clones. I really hate clones in story lines. If you don't have an idea for a story or plot line doesn’t add clones, it's stupid and it's annoying. Other than that, the show is pretty good and I will now be going out to watch seasons 1 and 2 so I know what is going on.

Primeval

I first heard of this show a few years back thanks to the pilot episode being available for free on iTunes. After watching the pilot I was hooked. Frantically checked my cable guide to see if the show was currently on the air. I discovered it was only being shown on BBC which lead me to learning that my local cable provider carries BBC America. They were airing S1 but I was catching the episodes out of sequence. So when volume 1 came out on DVD last December I snatched it up. Eagerly awaited S3. If you followed the show from the beginning, you were familiar with the original cast. During the S1 finale, an original cast member is killed. During S2, another major original cast member is killed which for me really jumped the shark or whatever that phrase is. When S3 starts it's almost like awhole new show bc the cast is different. When the S3 finale aired it ended on a serious cliffhanger. A few months later I learned the show had been cancelled with the cliffhanger which is such a bummer. I do plan on adding Volume 2 to my collection as I did enjoy the series for the time it was on the air.
