EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES VOLUME 3:
Some threats can be stopped with only one of Earth’s heroes but some threats require the aid of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, The Avengers. Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Hulk, Ant Man, The Wasp, and team leader Captain America make up the team of the best superheroes in the world. They are ready for anything, even when Kang the Conqueror comes back in time to take out Captain America. With the world being threatened in both the present and the past, the Avengers must pool their powers and skills to defeat would be future planet conqueror.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE:
Volume 3 of The Avengers animated series picks up with episodes 14 – 19, which is the middle of the season for the show. Episode 14, which is the first one on the disc, picks up with the conclusion of the plot where the Masters of Evil have taken out each hero one by one and then getting into Avengers mansion. The episode is pretty good, not the best of the episodes in this volume but it had it’s moments with showing all the Masters of Evil taking out the Avengers.

The following episode deals with the character Captain Mar-vell who is an alien from Kree who wants to stop a Kree robot from destroying the planet. This was my favorite episode of the DVD because it dealt with how the character development in the group, had some funny lines in it, and it showed Carol Danvers with her body glowing at the end and floating (if you don’t know who that is, it’s Ms. Marvel a very cool character). As for the next 3 episodes it’s the storyline dealing with Kang the Conqueror as he tries to kill Captain America because he believes Cap is the reason for the destruction of Earth in the future. I always have liked Kang, he’s a character that can do almost anything, he’s smart, he’s strong, and he has a cool name.

All the episodes dealing with Kang has so much going on in them that if you are a fan of the comic book version of the Avengers, you will notice all sorts of goodies. One namely being Ultron. Oh I won’t spoil it for you but lets just say that Ultron was a lot of fun for me to watch get introduced on the series as well as 42 (and no it’s not the answer to everything). Not only that but the team has to really do some major fighting and thinking to figure out a way to stop and defeat Kang. He’s not just a typical villain they have to face, he’s one from the future, with future weapons, and he knows how to fight.

So what makes this animated cartoon so good? Well, other than it being the Avengers, it has some really nice artwork for the animation as well as following along with the comic history. These are stories that have been told in different plots in many of the comic titles that are now animated and they are just a lot of fun to watch. It’s no longer like the old style cartoons where one episode has some villain appear, do something bad, then the heroes beat up the villain to win at the end. Instead, there’s an a real plot that takes place in each episode that is ongoing yet still having the individual action having an ending with each episode. Though the stories still feature a lesson to be learned for the heroes and the viewer, like never forgetting the past because if you do then you will repeat it.

I also liked how a lot of these episodes on Volume 3 deal with Iron Man and what he does for the team. What I found really cool is that even though this is a series that’s about the team of the Avengers, they still introduced and showed part of the Fantastic Four in one of the episodes. These episodes also show how these characters are not the perfect team, they bicker and fight with each other, this allows the show to develop the characters friendships and makes for some funny lines, especially when it comes to the Hulk talking about Thor.
