Show: Beauty and the Beast Genre: Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy Starring: Estella Warren, Rhett Giles, Victor Parascos, Vanessa Gray Network: SyFy Channel Airdate/Time: February 27, 2010 9:00pm Rating: ( )Grade: D+ Belle lives with her mother and works hard at coming up with new scents to be added to the washes that they do for a living. One day while out in the woods looking for herbs to create her scents Belle is attacked by a wolf and survives only thanks to a hidden creature in the forest. As she tries to approach her savior she finds him less than happy to meet and even threatens her. Thus begins the tumultuous relationship between Belle and the Beast. Meanwhile elsewhere in the kingdom a king lays dying and the ambitious Count Rudolph starts planning ways to ensure he inherits the throne. Teaming up with the notorious witch Lady Helen the two seek to destroy the secret & only living heir… the Beast. With the help of a troll created by Lady Helen, they set out on a killing spree blaming the Beast the whole time. With nowhere to run and an angry mob seeking revenge the Beast with Belle at his side must face his attackers head on and try to clear his name. Unlike the previous Syfy movies based on classic tales (Alice & Tinman) this movie is not set in the present. On top of that very little has been added or altered to the original tale showing a lack of creativity on Syfy’s part. There are fewer effects, a lower film quality, and a weaker script. There is no new flair or twist on the expected unless you count the addition of a troll. And I swear they are just re-using a “medieval” type village set that they have used in many of their other movies. And the one of the biggest things that “Beauty And The Beast” is known for, the love story, is rushed and just sort of happens. In fact I didn’t care if they fell in love, if they didn’t fall in love, or if they kissed once and decided it better to just be friends. Another uninspired version of a story done almost as much as “Pride And Prejudice” and is sure to not appease fans. |
