Jasira is a 13 year old girl, who has been taught nothing of growing up, feelings she may have, and what is appropriate interaction between herself and an adult. After being caught having her Mother’s boyfriend shaving her, Jasira is sent off to live with her Father in Texas as her Mother believes this is all her fault. Once in Texas Jasira has to deal with a physically abusive Father that back-hands her over her clothes & punches her in the leg repeatedly trying to get her to answer a question, Mr. Vuoso the man that lives next door that takes her out on a date, molests her, and eventually has sex with her, a boy in her class that asks her out and then demonstrates that he is pretty much only interested in her for sex, and finally a caring pregnant neighbor Collette that may be the only saving grace in Jasira’s life.

This movie is terrible; you feel disturbed, uncomfortable, and disgusted while watching. On the back of the case the summary says “emotional, frequently funny events, and Jasira’s life changes forever”. “Funny events”? Are they serious? Is this just one big film written for pedophiles? If perhaps there was some kind of help or lesson or punishment at the end of this movie then perhaps I could get behind the disturbing images of Mr. Vuoso with blood on his hand after he breaks Jasira’s hymen (oh sorry too much information well get upset over this movie it’s the one that shows it). But no, there is nothing.

In fact at the end of the movie Mr. Vuoso is out of jail on bail I guess and you have no clue what punishment he could be facing. Jasira still feels comfortable enough to run up to Mr. Vuoso and try and talk to him because no one is talking to her about it, no one is teaching her anything, and no one is trying to get her help so she can work past all the issues she may have and learn to have some self respect. Jasira is also still talking about and planning on still having sex with her boyfriend even after everything that has happened. Her Father is back in her life and no one did anything about him beating Jasira.

So what in the world was the point of this story? It almost glorifies teenage sex, pedophiles, beating children, etc. etc. I don’t even know how in the world they were able to cast this movie, what was Aaron Eckhart thinking taking this role? I would advise everyone to stay as far away from this movie as possible, there is nothing of value to be taken from it and you will feel dirty and horrible for hours if not longer after watching it.
