Welcome to Hotel Transylvania Dracula's lavish five-stake resort where monsters and their families can live it up and no humans are allowed. Halloween is almost upon us and with the holiday comes a slew of horror and psychological thrillers that are sure to give eager moviegoers a scream. But for little kids and those who don’t enjoy being scared stiff there’s the family friendly option in the animated Halloween comedy, Hotel Transylvania. Horror favorites including Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, and the Werewolf gather at a hotel designed specifically for monsters when their worst fear invades the castle’s gates; a human.

Hundreds of years ago, monsters such as Dracula (Adam Sandler) were forced into hiding from scared villagers who simply misunderstood them. Because of this, Dracula built the Hotel Transylvania deep within the forest where he and his daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez), could live in peace, along with any other monsters who needed a place to get away from civilization. On the verge of Mavis’ 118th birthday, Dracula is busy with the party planning when a human hiker stumbles upon the hotel. In an attempt to keep things running smoothly and not worry any of the other guests, Dracula disguises Jonny (Andy Samberg) and Jonny-Stein, the supposed long lost cousin of Frankenstein’s left hand.

Plenty of shenanigans ensue as Dracula does his best of keeping Jonny hidden, meanwhile Mavis, at her young age, is intrigued by the outside world having spent all her life inside the hotel. Naturally she takes a shine to Jonny and the two hit it off quite well. Nestled within the comedy is a sweet young romance. It can be a little cheesy at times but remember the film is geared towards younger audiences. There are still some decent laughs and horror cult references, though.

Vampires burn up in the sun (no, they don’t sparkle), Frankenstein is afraid of fire, and the Invisible Man is one big prankster. These are all some of the oftentimes humorous scenarios Hotel Transylvania depicts, and they’re mostly good for a laugh or two. There’s never a dull moment as the extensive cast keeps things moving at a generous pace. This is perhaps Sandler’s best film in year, mostly in part because he’s not playing his typical idiotic self.

Hotel Transylvania delivers a family friendly Halloween comedy that’s packed with laughs and a heartwarming story. While it doesn’t push the limits of animation or story writing, it will leave you with a smile on your face.

Celeste (Rashida Jones) and Jesse (Andy Samberg) are high school sweethearts who married young and are now at a crossroads at the age of thirty. While Celeste is a success in business, Jesse is unemployed and adrift. Celeste thinks that if they divorce now they could still remain friends. Eva Amurri Martino plays the younger version of her real-life mother Susan Sarandon.

Adam Sandler has been in a downward spiral with multiple Razzie nominations for practically every film he’s recently released. People still flock to see them, though. Perhaps they’re hoping for another Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore. Perhaps they just want to see how low Sandler will go. Either way, there’s profit to be made. His latest film, That’s My Boy, pairs Sandler with SNL veteran Andy Samberg as an unlikely father-son duo. Is this the turnaround Sandler is looking for or just another nomination for the Razzies?

As a young boy, Donny Berger (Sandler) engaged in a relationship with his high school teacher that left him with one son and her with 30 years in prison. Flash forward more than 30 years and the boy who was born Han Solo Berger has changed his name to Todd Peterson and is a successful business man who is about to get married. In need of some cash to stay out of jail because of the IRS, Donny shows up the day before the big wedding for some father and son bonding time.

That’s My Boy is pretty much like the rest of Sandler’s films. It’s heavy on the raunchy language and sex jokes and little else. Sandler, for whatever reason, attempts to sound as unintelligent as possible with his stereotypical character accent and trailer trash demeanor. Frankly, it’s not even necessary. When he does manage to get some laughs, it’s usually at the effort of somebody else.

The best aspect of the film is the various cameos and supporting actors. Andy Samberg has a few laughs with his underwear rubbing and father hating antics. Meanwhile, Milo Ventimiglia steals the show as Chad, the fiancé’s chiseled testosterone-fueled Marine solider. Throw in some well-placed cameos by Vanilla Ice and Todd Bridges, and you have something that’s actually watchable.

There are some genuinely funny moments, whether it’s Donny pulling a beer out from some of the most random places or Chad having an impromptu wrestling match with Todd. Unfortunately, they don’t completely overshadow that fact that the film relies so heavily on stereotypical jokes. Do we really need to see Adam Sandler jerking it to a photo of an old lady in a swimming suit? Yeah, I didn’t think so. That’s My Boy may be better than anything Sandler’s released in recent years, but honestly, that’s not saying much.

BBC Three Unveils Andy Samberg TV Series

BBC Three on Tuesday announced Andy Samberg's first post-Saturday Night Live TV project, unveiling Cuckoo, a six-part comedy series that will see him star opposite Welsh comedian Greg Davies (The Inbetweeners).

Samberg will play a "slacker full of outlandish, New Age ideas," the network said.

"The best of British meets the toast of Hollywood," said executive producer Ash Atalla (The Office, The IT Crowd). "We hope Cuckoo cements the special relationship between our two great countries. I imagine [Barack] Obama and [British Prime Minister David] Cameron will be watching closely."

The show from Roughcut Television will film this summer and air later this year. It was created and written by Robin French and Kieron Quirke.

"When Ken (Greg Davies) and Lorna (Helen Baxendale) collect their daughter (Tamla Kari) from the airport, they're horrified to learn that she's returned from her gap year with more than just a henna tattoo and braids in her hair," BBC Three said in a more detailed show description. "At the arrival gate, she promptly introduces them to her new husband, Cuckoo (Andy Samberg) - the squared-jawed, self-appointed spiritual ninja who is now their son-in-law."
