If nothing else Boss demonstrates that Kelsey Grammer has dramatic acting chops to go along with his excellent (and better known) comedic talents. Fortunately for everyone involved, Boss is much more than a proving ground for Grammer's abilities. It succeeds as a political drama and, as a result, an examination of corruption and power in the rule and reign of Mayor Tom Kane (Grammer). Using Chicago and Kane's mayorship as the backdrop, Boss operates on a scale and scope that is reminiscent of Shakespearean tragedy. The stories being told here are engaging and, at times, infuriating. It's engrossing to watch Kane pull the strings of government, even as he himself is dealing with an inoperable and potentially agressive brain disease. For all that he possesses, he is grasping at straws as his body begins to slip away from him.

Drugs, power, sex, betrayal, greed...it makes for an intoxicating and incendiary mix for Kane and all the people caught up in his gravitation pull. This isn't a pretty show, but it is a fascinating one. From a technical standpoint, it looks and sounds amazing on Blu-Ray. The clarity of picture is remarkable. It's a little weak on the special features, consisting of episode commentaries and a featurette. But it has all eight epiosdes from Season 1 and that's really the main attraction here, isn't it?

All in all, Boss is a pretty interested show. It's not an easy one to watch, especially in our current political climate, but it's effective. Check it out if this is your cup of tea.

This sequel to a box-office sleeper hit that spoofed teen slasher flicks takes its cues from haunted house and possession films, particularly The Haunting (1999) and The Exorcist (1973). Although many of the first film's main characters were homicide victims, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Anna Faris return anyway to "re-possess" their roles for this follow-up in which four students are invited by their professor (Tim Curry) to his haunted mansion, Hell House, for a weekend sleep-deprivation study. Providing the sleep deprivation, however, is a series of murderous, supernatural goings-on. Scary Movie 2 co-stars Tori Spelling, Andy Richter, Christopher Masterson, Kathleen Robertson, James Woods, Chris Elliott, and Natasha Lyonne.
