Comedian and actress Joan Rivers has passed away at the age of 81 after suffering complications during surgery, her daughter Melissa Rivers announced today. She was surrounded by close family and friends.

Rivers went to a clinic for thoat surgery on August 28, where she experienced complications that included stopped breathing. After being rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, she was placed into a medically induced coma and on life support. It was only yesterday, September 3rd, that Melissa posted an updated saying, “My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable. Thank you for your continued support.”

Joan Rivers passed away today at 1:17pm, according to Melissa. Her full statement is below.

"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.

Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.

My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

The kids have spoken.

Nickelodeon’s 2013 Kids’ Choice Awards saw Kristen Stewart walk away with two blimps, with a favorite movie actress win for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and a favorite female buttkicker honor for Snow White and the Huntsman.

The Hunger Games took home favorite movie, and Wreck-It Ralph was crowned favorite animated movie. Selena Gomez, whose not-so kid friendly Spring Breakers opened in limited release over the weekend, won the favorite TV actress award for Wizards of Waverly Place. Johnny Depp was honored as favorite movie actor for his work in Dark Shadows.

Of course, no Kids' Choice Awards would be complete without a few stars getting covered in green slime. Sandra Bullock, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, and Neil Patrick Harris were among those who got covered in goo. Other stars participating in the ceremony included Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and LeBron James.

According to Nick, over 387 million votes were cast online from Feb. 14 and March 23 in 22 categories. It was the first year users could vote via Twitter.

The awards ceremony was held at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles Saturday and was hosted by Josh Duhamel. Encore showings of the live broadcast will air Sunday at 12 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Disney Closing 'Epic Mickey' Video Game Studio

Disney said it is closing Junction Point Studios, the video-game developer it acquired six years ago that was behind the creation of the much-hyped Disney Epic Mickey.

Epic Mickey was released amid fanfare in late 2010 and marked the first appearance since 1943 of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as a major Disney character. In the game, Mickey Mouse must use a magic paintbrush to fix a damaged cartoon world. The game was part of an effort to introduce the iconic animated mouse to a new generation, but it also antagonized some purists who complained of a darker, more flawed character than they were accustomed to.

Junction Point is run by founder Warren Spector, a well regarded developer of games who has been in the business since the early 1980s. Spector addressed the closing of the studio on his Facebook page.

“I said to myself as Junction Point embarked on the Epic Mickey journey that, worst case, we'd be 'a footnote in Disney history.' Looking back on it, I think we did far better than that,” he wrote. “With Mickey Mouse as our hero, we introduced a mainstream audience to some cool 'core game' concepts ... and, most especially, we restored Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to a place of prominence.”

“Whatever you think of me,” he continued,“or Junction Point, or Disney or the Disney Epic Mickey games – yes, I know we polarized people! – I'll always look back on the last eight years with nothing but pride.”

Epic Mickey started out strong when first released, scoring several positive reviews and selling 1.3 million copies in its first month. A sequel to the game, while praised for improvements, was nevertheless considered a disappointment from a sales point of view.

Disney, which has been under pressure to turn a profit at its interactive division, acknowledged the closure of Junction Point, though a spokesman didn’t say how many jobs were in jeopardy. He said the Epic Mickey franchise might live on, though there were no plans for sequels to the game.

“It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios,” a spokesman said. “These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2."

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Harry Potter, The Vampire Diaries, Glee and Gossip Girl were among the big winners at Sunday night's Teen Choice Awards.

Twilight star Taylor Lautner won the award for choice movie actor -- sci-fi/fantasy for his role in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, where his fellow nominees included Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson. Still, Pattinson didn't go home empty-handed: He was named choice movie actor and choice vampire.

Meanwhile, Lautner's co-stars Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene won choice movie scene stealers.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was named choice movie -- sci-fi/fantasy, while Part 2 was named choice movie of the summer.

In addition, the movie's stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson were named choice summer movie stars. Watson also won choice movie actress in a sci-fi/fantasy. The movie's Tom Felton was named choice movie villain.

The Vampire Diaries, which airs on the CW, also was a big winner. The series was named choice TV show -- fantasy/sci-fi, while stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder were named choice TV actress and actor in a TV show -- fantasy/sci-fi. Actors Katerina Graham and Michael Trevino were named choice TV scene stealer.

Fox's Glee also was a big winner in the TV categories, named choice TV comedy, choice TV actor for Cory Monteith and choice TV breakout star for Darren Criss.

Winning two awards was the CW's Gossip Girl, which was named choice TV show -- drama. Star Blake Lively was named choice TV show actress.

MTV's Jersey Shore was named choice reality show.

In the film categories, Fast Five was named choice action movie. Emma Stone was named choice actress in a romantic comedy for Easy A, while Ed Helms won the surfboard for choice hissy fit in a movie for The Hangover 2.

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake were named choice actress and actor in a comedy for Bad Teacher.

Ashton Kutcher walked away with the giant surfboard trophy for choice movie actor -- romantic comedy for No Strings Attached. While accepting his award, Kutcher led the audience in a sing-along of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream."

Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres was named choice comedian. In her acceptance speech, she quipped that she had considered singing "Stairway to Heaven" but decided it was too long.

Among the big winners in the music categories was Taylor Swift, who was honored with the Ultimate Choice Award during the ceremony. She also was named choice female artist and female country artist and took home the awards for choice country song ("Mean") and choice break-up song ("Back to December") in addition to being named red-carpet fashion icon (female).

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez & the Scene performed "Love You Like a Love Song" at the awards show. The group won choice music single for "Who Says" and choice music group, while the singer-actress was named choice actress and choice female hottie.

After her performance, she dedicated the song to her fans.

Justin Bieber went home with the nods for choice male artist and choice TV villain for his guest-starring role on CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In addition, he was named choice male hottie and choice twit.

"Three years ago, I was chilling on a couch in Canada watching the Teen Choice Awards, and now I'm here," he said in his acceptance speech, adding that "anything is possible if you set your mind to it."

Demi Lovato took home the surfboard for choice song of the summer for "Skyscraper."

Perry and Bruno Mars were named choice musical artists of the summer.

The Teen Choice Awards took place at Universal City's Gibson Amphitheatre and aired live on Fox. Kaley Cuoco hosted.

The woes continue for Tiger Woods off the course. Last year, Electronic Arts made the golfing great share the cover of his bestselling game with Northern Irish rookie Rory McIlroy for the first time ever. This year, following the controversy away from the green and lackluster play on it, Woods has been dropped from the cover of the March 29th release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. Woods has been replaced with a shot of the iconic yellow flag at Augusta National Golf Club, which is a major focus for the new game. Woods will appear on the PlayStation 3 Collector's Edition of the game, which will cost $10 more and include five additional courses.

EA Sports has worked with Woods since 1999 on what once was a perennial bestselling title. But last year, sales of the game dropped in the U.S. and around the globe dramatically.

According to videogame analyst David Cole of DFC Intelligence, sales of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 were down 50% to 60% on a worldwide basis from 2009. While EA stood by their cover athlete, they did not work with him to promote the game last year. Traditionally, Woods does media interviews and appearances to launch each new game.

"The thing about golf is the whole business is tied to Tiger," said Cole. "TV viewership was also down over 30%. If Woods wins, viewership should increase. With the overall sport being so tied to Tiger I don't see EA parting ways in the near future. However, you could be less likely to see a major emphasis on Tiger."

"The sales issues of the Tiger Woods video game are much broader and deeper than Tiger's personal problems and has more to do with the entire golf sport struggling in 2010," said Jesse Divnich, Vice president of Electronic Entertainment Design and Research. "Of course, one could argue the decline in the interest of golf has to do with Tiger's extended absence and returned poor performance. But even if that was true, it says a lot about the PGA Tour and their over-reliance on one person to carry the whole league. PGA exposed itself to this risk and now is facing the consequences. "

During a media conference call to discuss the new game, EA Sports President Peter Moore said that the game publisher is standing by the former number one golfer in the world.

"If the insinuation is it's a reflection of EA Sports backing away from its relationship that goes back literally 13 years with Tiger, that's not the case whatsoever," said Moore. "You shouldn't read anything into the fact that Tiger's not featured on the box art of that particular edition...Tiger is right there on the PS3 version of the game with Move support, which was very good for us and Sony last year. We'll continue that."

"Obviously, it was a difficult year last year, but you saw towards the end of the season Tiger starting to get back to his old ways," said Moore. "We all, as both a sports industry and sports fans, are hopeful he comes back in full force in 2011."

Tiger will remain a featured playable character in the new game, along with 20 other professional golfers like 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson and Bubba Watson, a Team USA member of the 2010 Ryder Cup - Team USA. Jim Nantz and David Feherty will call the action in a new television broadcast presentation for the game.

Electronic Arts has spent the past year focusing on bringing The Masters to its game franchise for the first time. The studio employed new laser scanning technology to scan every hole, bush and tree of Augusta National Golf Club.

"I am very happy and excited that the Masters Tournament is featured in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour game," said Woods in a statement. "There are many new and unique elements in the game that will make everyone feel like they're really competing at Augusta National. This is great for the sport and will connect a new audience with the Masters, a tournament I've been fortunate to experience since 1995. Continually growing the visibility of golf is important to attracting newcomers to the sport, and I agree that showcasing the Masters Tournament in the game will bring an entirely new dimension to that approach."

If The Masters fails to give Woods the necessary sales boost, Electronic Arts might end up joining the long list of sponsors like Gillette, AT&T, Accenture, and Gatorade that have parted ways with him.

Divnich doesn't believe focusing more on the Masters will strengthen sales.

"Everything correlates back to the level of interest in golf," said Divnich.

Howard Stern has signed another five-year deal to stay at Sirius/XM, he announced on his radio show Thursday morning.

"I have come to the conclusion that the real innovators, the real geniuses are the people here at Sirius," he said. "I have signed a five-year contract to stay at Sirius."

Stern's five-year, $500 million contracted was set to expire at the end of this month.

Stern did not discuss how much his second contract was worth, just saying it was "very fair."

Sirius XM's chief financial officer David Frear has hinted the company may not pay Stern as much.

"At the time of the merger, we were in many long-term contracts," Frear said at a UBS conference this week. "As they come up for renewal, we'll have the opportunity to get more favorable economic terms there."

Stern says this will be his last renewal.

"I can say with almost certainty that this is my final five years on radio," he told his listeners.
