Hercule Poirot returns in the first trailer for 20th Century Studios’ A Haunting in Venice. The supernatural mystery thriller is based on Agatha Christie’s “Hallowe’en Party” novel and is the third film featuring the famed detective following 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express and 2022’s Death on the Nile.
Judging by the first trailer, A Haunting in Venice is clearly going for a more horror theme as opposed to the typical comedy associated with the films. Kenneth Branagh is one again directing and starring in the film alongside an ensemble cast including Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Kelly Reilly, and Michelle Yeoh.
According to the official synopsis, the film “is set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve. A Haunting in Venice is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.”
A Haunting in Venice releases in theaters on September 15, 2023.
