‘Gran Turismo’ Trailer Trades the Controller for the Steering Wheel

Written by Matt Rodriguez

The first trailer for Sony’s Gran Turismo film tells the true story of a British teenager who won a video game racing competition and traded in his controller for the steering wheel with the opportunity to become a professional race car driver.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp, Gran Turismo is based upon the series of PlayStation video games by the same name. Specifically, the film explores the story of Jann Mardenborough, played by Archie Madekwe. In 2011, Mardenborough participated in GT Academy, a televised competition where the best Gran Turismo game players competed against each other for the chance to become a real-life professional race car driver for Nissan. As you can see in the trailer, Mardenborough beat the rest of the competition to bring his gaming skills directly to the track.

Gran Turismo also stars David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, and Djimon Hounsou. The film releases in theaters on August 11, 2023. Are you ready to race?
